This Site

The What —— This site is about thought, lots of thought expressed as many thoughts by me, you, us and them. More specifically, this site is about thought in response to Scripture as it came to be written and translated into English from the Hebrew and the Greek. Thought may be expressed as conclusion, hypothesis, question, comparison, suggestion. Thought may be driven by the Spirit through the heart and expressed emotionally. Or thought may be driven by the intellect through the brain and expressed as reason.

The Who—– Not of importance. Not relevant to thought which stands or collapses on its own, neither embellished nor diminished by its source. Of course, each of us is human, and each of us is biased by our identity. So the challenge is to express thought enriched by our identity (experience) without attaching our thought to our identity as though they were Siamese twins. It seems to me that identity theology has had the unintended consequence of making God smaller. I think of my identity as descriptive of my limitations (knowledge, emotion, courage, and intellect, to name but a few) as a mortal destined to sin and death. So much for me.

The Why—– The self-centered reason for this site is the hope of expanding my own understanding of God and our human condition in relation to God by reading Scripture carefully, asking questions and posing thoughts in writing to hopefully auger clearer thinking, and inviting others to thoughtfully do the same. Perhaps we can be of service to each other across the miles.

The How—– I will try to do weekly posts to this Blog by Tuesday. I plan to use the Revised Common Lectionary of Presbyterian Mission USA as one coherent guide to Scripture. From time to time I will include relevant thought from my library of theological, biblical and apologist writings. However, these blogs are not meant to be lectures or mini-sermons. Nor are they devotions. Nor is this site like a Bible study class where the format tends to focus on one Book at a time. Rather, I am reading Scripture in is relevance to daily life, thinking and asking questions. Maybe you can help me, and maybe we can serve each other. My Bible references include the NRSV, NIV, KJV, and Greek New Testament.
